high sugar levels

Hi just something interesting for you to read.

Yesterday morning I woke up with sugar levels of 21.0. The funny thing was that I had taken my base insulin the day before and my evening needle after my dinner, so I couldn't figure out why I had gone so high. My mum thought that I may have possibly hypoed during the night as it was not normal for a reading that high.

Later on throughout the day my sugar levels continued to be high no matter how much insulin I had. At dinner time my sugar levels were 31.4! I have never been that high. We came up with the idea that there was something wrong with my insulin so this morning I changed my insulin cartridge and then changed my base insulin lantus. I hope this is the reason why I was so high if not then I haven't got a clue as I have been doing extra insulin and eating less so there is no reason for me to go high.

Food and diet

Hi, my favourite recipe when cooking is the recipe for little fairy cakes. They are in most diabetic cook books and I love them. They have reduced sugar so you can eat as many as you want! What are your favourite recipes? If you have any new recipes that I could add to my recipe page on www.kidsdiabetes.co.uk then post the recipe on the blog or email me at emm@kidsdiabetes.co.uk. x x x

Painfull injections

Hi I don't know about you but don't you find that injections really hurt. i just did my injection and the pain was horrible. also i can sometimes predict whether or not before the injection as to whether or not it will hurt. sometimes the pain is that bad that i cry, i'm quite sensitive that it hurts that much. does anyone else experience these feelings?

Nearly Christmas

I don't know about you but Christmas is coming and there's a lot of chocolate that is very enticing. But we have to be good with our diabetes, but not that good don't forget to treat yourself over Christmas but just simply increase your insulin dosage to suit what you have eaten.

What is everyone doing over Christmas? I'm staying home with my family and my boyfriend, I can't wait. I'm doing my Christmas shopping soon hopefully, I love Christmas shopping.

What are your interests and hobbies?

Love Emma x x x

Eye tests

Hi it’s Emma again. Just had an eye test today to check to see if my eyes are OK with my diabetes and they’re fine. It took me ages to see again afterwards things were really blurry. I usually see pink and purple spots floating around when I have eye drops. What sort of things do you have?

My sugar levels have been a bit high recently but I have been eating a lot as I am always hungry but I just keep forgetting to raise my insulin dosage I need to write it on my hand to remind myself.

insulin pumps

I have just watched the news and heard about this new insulin pump for type 1 diabetics. I don't think that I could have a pump it would be too uncomfortable and you would not be able to do anything. Sports such as trampolining would not be possible in the case of catching the pump. Clothes must be very hard to fit as the pump would get in the way. But if it suits certain people then I say go for it! You only live once!

Hi from Emma

I have just got a new blood testing meter with Lifescan One touch Ultra Easy. it is really small and can fit in my smaller handbags. the graphics are a lot clearer than my other meter and the pen pricker is half the size. they are only about £5.99 each so if i was you i'd get one they're brilliant. i have never been so excited over a meter before!
